Hi I've started to learn how to brew and was happy to find this forum. I bought a starter's kit and followed the instructions for the first batch, which came out tasty. Before i begin the second batch, i wanted to conform that the mix im starting with looks and smells the way it should. The mushroom looks like it has grown. Its white/clear floating in some of the kombucha from the last batch. I have been storing this mix in a sealed glass jar at room temperature for 3-5 months. I wanted to double check that this white solid is the organism not a type of mold growth it looks normal but im new to the process and don't know what is typical. The mix smells like vinegar and i assume thats normal. Ive included pictures. Thanks for reading. If anyone knows of a good guide, video, or would be willing to briefly chat with me and mentor me on what to expect/ look for each time, please let me know. I would be interested in learning other forms of brewing (beer or wine) once im comfortable and familiar with this process. I love kombucha and have a good tea selection. I would like to brew more regularly to enjoy different flavors and add healthy bacteria into my diet.

You need starter tea.
All you have is a pellicle and very little starter.
The pellicle is not important for a second batch, but the starter tea is.

How much starter tea should i put in next time? The instructions i followed gave me this measurement but they may not have been the best guide. I was going to prepare the new batch after heating up some tea today. Will this work as is or should i start over or use store kombucha to add more fluid?

20-25% starter.
Read previous threads on the issue.
Pellicle is not what makes Kombucha, starter is.
