Question about my Co2 regulator?

I'd probably wipe that grease off, and clean the inside of that stem with a Q-tip and some acetone (e.g., nail polish remover).
 
No harm done. Actually, a bit of lube now and then will help to maintain the pliability of the rubber gasket. Just not so much. A light glazing is all that is warranted.
 
The cylinder I rent is labeled not to get grease or oil on the valve outlet.

I guess its probably because they are rented out as food grade CO2 cylinders.

I doubt co2 reacts with oil and grease etc but i wouldn't want to do it with say oxygen etc.

I guess too much of the wrong types of oiles finding their way to the diaphram of a regulator could cause it deteriorate.
I would think a food safe keg lube is going to be reasonably harmless to rubbers though.
