I have a question about putting a controller on a fridge with an overhead freezer. Will the controller also keep the overhead freezer at the set thermostat temperature?

Thanks,

Steve

It depends where you put the probe. If you put the probe in the freezer, then the freezer will be at the set temp. If you put the probe in the fridge, the freezer will be considerably colder.

Keep in mind that if you are doing an ale and your compressor fires way less times then normal that your freezer will start to thaw out eventually... ask my pissed off wife how I know. Just be careful how you place the probe to measure ferm temp and keep an eye on the freezer section for a day or so after you do it if there is actually food in there.

Thanks for the replies. I would actually prefer it be above freezing. My hope was to keep the fridge section at ale temps in the summer, and to use the top portion as a bottle fridge/hop storage/yeast storage.

Does anyone have an idea what the temp difference is in the freezer if the fridge is set between 60-65?

Your fridge may be different, but mine didn't work that way... if I adjusted the fridge setting to try and get above 50 my freezer would thaw... fast.

+1 This has also been my experience. Additionally, the freezer state will vary considerably with ambient temperature changes. I don't rely on my freezer to keep anything well frozen. Mostly I just fill it with bunch of 2 liter bottles of water to increase the thermal mass.
