So I bought all the parts for the cast iron keg tower seen here and elsewhere

My question is, is there a good way to clean off the the oily substance on the iron fittings without getting any rust spots? My pieces have a smudgy film on them that I'd like to clean off before installing. Anyone have any ideas?

It's pretty much all about leaving iron objects damp/wet.
Wash it with whatever you have that'll cut grease/oil (even dishwashing liquid) then dry it quickly and finish with a blow-drier...

Cheers!

I think I may go with a stainless steel version instead. I do like the look of the black cast iron but there will be less concern of rust with SS. I'll rig up a fan to blow air into the tower which should reduce the chances of condensation.

Or maybe a PVC version but I haven't been able to locate any black PVC pipe. All I can find is white PVC. The weight of the SS or cast iron tower has me a bit concerned. I don't know how solid the connection to the kegerator will be. I don't want to accidentally bump it and rip it off the top of the kegerator.
