What types would be best for a three vessel single tier that could be used up to 15 gallons of fluid at a time? Keggle or b3-2100 comparisons?

Where would you get it?

I wonder what the BTUs on that 10" burner are.

Can using black pipe and ball valves to these hold themselves up or will they need additional support beyond the pipe? I guess that wouldn't be so hard to add into a stand.

Any warnings, tips, or tricks for plumbing propane into a stand?

I decided on three of these for my single tier build:

They are a little bigger than the replacement burners for the Bayou classic and state they are 70,000 btus. After reading a lot of posts, it seems that the 10" burners may more than needed for 10 gallon batches. For $10 a pop I figure its worth a try. I can always switch out the HLT burner for something with more btu's if needed.

I haven't received them yet but will let you know if they look strong enough to mount just on the pipe. I suspect they will need some sort of bracket though.

are you planning:

[tank]-[regulator]-[hose]

to a three-way split, run hard pipe to each, and have a ball valve at each burner for control, or a needle valve?

I didn't time it last time I brewed but I want to say roughly 20-25 minutes to get 13.5 gallons to a rolling boil. Once it was going, I could turn the burner down under half power - another advantage to these type of burners is the control. They are plenty powerfull enough for 10 gallon batches as I almost had a couple of boil overs before the foam calmed down.

The 10 inch banjo burners can not be mounted just by the gas pipe. I just received 3 of them yesterday. They have 3/8 flare fittings on them and they weigh close to 20 pounds each. They do have 4 mounting tabs around the burner and they come with bolts. These things are HUGE......

Like this one, it's a great burner.

two under the same kettle? How big is the kettle?!?

Can this big round burners be dialed down to a low flame easily enough to just keep a boil going lightly or hold a warm temp?

It looks like the burner height is adjustable with your stand and the banjo burner. Do you have a prefered distance for the burner top and the bottom of the keggle? I guess that I will have to take the keggle skirt in consideration. My single tier plan is still on the drawing board.
Thanks...

:off:Hey blaze-
What kind of brewery are you running? Just curious, if you've got a place I'd love to stop buy for a beer.:off:

We are still sorting through all the permits and legal crap...... California is the wrong place to do this. The ATF treats everyone like they are running a meth lab. I will let everyone know when we open the brew pub. For the meantime, I am building new homebrew set-up to keep my personal inventory stocked.

The burners are something that confuses me greatly. I have the KAB5 banjo Burner and I only get like 2 5 gallon Ag batches done before I need to fill up. What is optimal distance from burner to keggle bottom and how much should you have tank valve and regulator valve open?? I know I should get more efficiency out of my burner!

I think you and BM have it tied in characers per sig, he just hates the liberal use of the line break.

Nathan - you will see the standard burners like this one rated from 55K BTUs to like 150K BTUs. It all depends on the regulator you use and how much gas it's able to supply. I've got three of those and they work great for 10 gal batches with either a 0-10 psi reg (old stand) or a 0-30 psi reg (new stand). I would recommend against the 10" burners like this one. It's not that they won't work, but they're not made for pressures over 10 psi and can't put out the same amount of heat. The banjo burner will put out more than enough heat too, but you'll spend more for them and I don't know that they really buy you anything at the volumes we're working with.

Here's a pic of my stand and a link to the build. I can run all three of those wide open with the 0-30 psi reg and they'll pump out more than enough heat for you. In reality, I never open up the reg all the way. It's just a waste of propane. FYI - the key to hard plumbing those is to use a pipe threaded orifice like this one.

This needs to be wiki'd, as it finally answers my questions! :)

I posted photos of my stuff in my gallery. It's still just a metal frame, but as time and money permit it will grow. I got a grinder last night to start cleaning it up.

Just ordered these burners and a 30lb regulator, thanks for the links/ideas!
