Is it possible to use my bottling bucket as my primary fermenter? I figured if I could it would be easy to transfer to my secondary by just using the spicket, then I could just sanitize the bucket for re-use for bottling.

I am going to try the same thing, I want to brew a stout for St. Pattys day and I need another bucket!

I have three more or less identical buckets I use for fermenting, clearing or bottling.

Problem that I would worry about is that the trub at the bottom might be high enough to block and clog the spigot.

aside from the yeast cake or trub possibly being so high it moves to secondary, you also need to pre-sanitize the inside of the spigot before you ever put wort in it, and then sanitize it again from the outside just before draining through it, to avoid potential for contamination.

for me, its far easier to sanitize my auto siphon and just rack to a carboy.
