Potential stir plate mod

I wouldn't use it to stir my coffee, thats just stupid. But a starter...
I wonder if the stirring mechanism makes direct contact with the liquid and if if has variable speed.

Doesn't seem to be a reliable energy system for extended use-only momentary.
Controllable speed is real nice; hundreds and not thousands of rpm's.
