I'm 12 days in on an American Wheat ale, my friend and I brewed it on Monday and it's been fermenting nicely but there is still a really thick layer of well carpet it looks like on the top of the beer, we have no idea how normal this is, it just doesn't seem like it's going anywhere, so my question is this.....Is this thick carpet like buildup on the top of our beer normal, is it abnormal, what should we do about it.....do we go ahead and rack to the secondary even with this residual Krausen carpet floating on the top.....advice would be great....and it is greatly appreciated in advance....thanks guys.

I have had big thick kraeusen take a while to drop out also. You do need to wait until it drops though. (I would imagine by 3 weeks it will be done)

The type and amount of kraeusen usually is dependent on the yeast used.

How flocculent is the yeast you used (what strain)? Like Chris_Dog says, let it sit to allow the yeast to fall to the bottom. Eventually it will happen.
