I feel like I made the perfect brew... Did everything right.... Made the Honey bee ale.... Was cleaning up and discovered the Candy thermometer I was using was Broke??? OMG..... I know I dipped it in the star san everytime before I used it... But did any get in the beer???? Did it break before or after I will never know. Do I trash it?? Is there anyway to test it for mercury? I will say that it DOESNT read accurate know.... but it did while I was doing the beer. Its like 50 degrees off now...

Most thermometers are not made of mercury any longer... you can always fully break it and let it out into a bowl--you will know if it is alcohol or not. But if there is any question at all.... toss it.

If it was colored other than silver, then you know it is not mercury.

But yes, if in doubt, toss it. Sucks to do so, but would suck even more to get some glass shards in a bottle.
