Hello all,

I received a plate chiller as a gift. 2 of the threads are 1/2" NPT and the other 2 are garden hose thread. I would really like to somehow use the camlock QDs on all 4 ports (as the chiller will be mounted). Obviously the two 1/2" NPT ports have no issues but what do I do with the GHTs?

Is there an economical solution to this? I went looking around the go-to sites (ie bargainfittings, brewhardware, and stainless brewing) but i'm not having any luck findings female GHT to 1/2" NPT reducer.

Mcmaster has what I need but they want $26.44 for 1! Item number 6224T13

Any thoughts or idea?

Thanks,
Corey

I think Home Depot garden section will be the easiest solution for plastic quick disconnects. A few of them even carry brass ones. They are pretty economical and since it is just chill water doesn't really matter about ss. Unless you are going for bling.

I love the bling factor but I'd have more money into the fittings and QD's than what the chillers worth. I'll def check out the garden section. It shouldn't matter if the fittings are brass or plastic as it'll just be pumping water anyway and won't touch the wort. The wort will be in the 1/2" side which will be all stainless. 1/2 bling is better than no bling right????

Thanks.

Good luck with the brass GH QD's at HD, I just tried them and they all leaked. Apparently garden hose QD's drip a little. I returned them grabbed an assortment of GH to 1/2" brass fittings to connect up camlocks. I used different styles for wort and water to keep things separate.

Was going to get stainless bit that's pricey.

I had success with the plastic ones. They have washers in them. I'm not sure if the brass ones do or not.

Thanks guys. So HD had a GHT to 1/2" reducer in brass? I haven't made the trip yet to look. What do they charge for that? How are they working, any leaks? I might just have to go the plastic route hearing this. Thanks again.

Lost my receipt, but IIRC most were about $5-6.

In hindsight, I would've gotten one with 1/2" water fittings, but picked mine up second hand for cheap.

The metal GH disconnects looked nice, but managed to drip a bit at the actual disconnect-there was a little play in them.

With the brass fittings and camlocks, mine is 100% leak free. Of course, you can always put the hoses directly onto the chiller but that didn't really work for my setup. Be sure to use teflon tape on brass to SS threads to make them easier to remove later.

rise, oh zombie thread...

for future reference, in case anyone else is dealing with this like i am at the moment:

(both are male garden hose only, i couldn't find any female GH)

better yet:
- http://www.dultmeier.com/products/0.630.2123/1983 (part EVBA74, MGH to male 1/2" NPT) or http://www.dultmeier.com/products/0.630.2123/1980 (EVBA794, MGH to female 1/2" NPT)
- http://www.dultmeier.com/products/0.630.2123/1984 should contain FGH to male NPT but doesn't list 1/2", only 3/4" and up. the PDF catalog has this part, listed as BMA974 - however a search of the website for BMA974 gives you something different. so the PDF catalog and the website are out of sync, not sure which is correct (i'd guess the website). maybe they don't carry FGH to male 1/2" NPT anymore.

there are also several options made out of polypropylene, but they are all GH to 3/4" NPT - so you would need a 3/4" to 1/2" reducer.

i was about to order some of the above, when i figured out that the garden hose connectors on my IC (similar to this one, but SS instead of copper) could be screwed off and underneath were 1/2" NPT connections :D
