I am very new to brewing. I am planning to brew a clone of 90 min IPA, and have light DME and also crushed belgian pilsner malt as steeping grains (says "will mash up to 30% adjuncts" if that helps), and of course lots of hops. I assume the style of lager or ale is most dependant on the yeast, and that pilsner malt (even though it is a lager malt) will work with the below recipe and pacman ale yeast. Copying the recipe i found online.

From the September 2004 Brew Your Own, per Sam Calagione:

8.0 LBS DME
1.75 lbs Pilsner malt

Steep grains at 150 F for 45 minutes

Hopping:
16 AAU Amarillo (2.0 oz @ 8% alpha) boil
8 AAU Simcoe ( 0.62 oz @ 13% alpha) boil
8 AAU Warrior (0.53 @ 15% alpha) boil

BOil for 105 minutes, at 90 minutes start adding hops, slowly and evenly. This works out to 0.25 oz of hops every 7.5 minutes

1 oz Amarillo (Dry hop)
0.5 oz Simcoe (Dry hop)
0.5 Warrior (dry hop)

1 tsp irish moss @ 15 minutes
Wyeast 1099 Whitbread ale

Pilsner malt is a good all around choice for many styles. It is the lightest of the base grains, so as you move on to all grain, you can use that it and adjust your flavor with various specialty malts. Many Belgian ales use only pilsner malt.
