So I bought one of the "milk can" style fermenters. I got it awhile back but have not gotten around to cleaning and passivating it. I know a lot of folks swear by Barkeeper's Friend, however I keep forgetting to pick any up.
I happen to have some C.L.R. I got to clean hard water stains. Wondering if I could use that instead?

I would wait until you do have the Barkeepers Friend. CLR will clean stainless, but may leave residue which would be hard to rinse. CLR for stainless appliances leaves such a barrier to prevent finger prints from showing.

Clean with the BF rinse well and dry. A couple weeks exposure to air will naturally passivate the surfaces.

You probably don't have nitric acid around, do you? Anyway bar keepers friend is super cheap at Walmart or home depot. I'd go that route. One more day will be okay.
