I am doing a stove-top mash with two 5 gallon pots and a 5 gallon paint strainer. Is there a certain amount of grain that I should not exceed due to the bag? I haven't gone over 7#s yet, but sometimes the bag seems constrictive with ~6.5 in it. Is that something I should worry about, or should I just mash however much grain my pots can hold? Just want to eliminate as much extract as possible from my recipes. Thanks!

For my last two partial mashes, I used 2 five gallon pots (one for mashing with 3 gallons, one for sparging 1.5 gallons) and 8# of grain in a 5 gallon paint strainer. No problems there. Might do 3.5 gallons next time...

ive fit 15-16#s in a 5gal paint strainer bag before

your kettle size will be a limiting factor before the bag will be :mug:

Nice! Just what I wanted to hear. Since I have been steadily increasing my efficiency, I feel pretty confident dropping the extract ASAP.

I've gone up to 14 or 15... but I prefer to not go over 12, because it starts getting pretty heavy with more than 12.
