i can tell you that around here in indianapolis, PBR is Punk Beer Rock. all the punk bars, and punk rock kids love it. there's several punk bars in town that serve PBR talls on special every day, and that's about all they sell there.

That's pretty much how it started in the Detroit area as well...punks and "ironically hip" college kids..
