Has anyone gone as far to use ozone as a cheap and very effective sanititizer? A lot of breweries are starting to move this direction.

Ozone presents some challenges on a home brewing scale.

It has to be generated at the point of use and can't be stored because it is an unstable gas that turns back into oxygen within minutes of being generated.

Ozone is also mildly toxic. Someday there may be affordable, small scale generators that give predicable concentrations that the average joe can use in his home.

Is this a technique that is only cheap and affordable at the commercial scale?

It doesn't get much cheaper than 1 oz to make 5 gallons of starsan, where 32 oz of the stuff isn't very expensive...especially if you don't use more than a gallon of the stuff on brew-day.

It's not about money, it's about effectiveness and the many ways you can use it.
