My original gravity reading is way off. I am brewing a holiday ale. Og is suppose 1.058 and mine is 1.01. I double check all ingredient and cant figure it out. The only mistake would be I had 4oz to much honey. It called for 1lb and I measured 16oz but later I weighted it and I add 4 oz to much. Im lost.

Too much honey would have increased the gravity. I'm assuming this is an extract brew, if so I would guess that your sample is off due to poor mixing. I.e. there's probably pockets of high and low gravity within the bucket/carboy.

I feel really dumb but thats nothing new. I shock the carboy took another reading and right on. Thanks for replying to one of my many dumb questions.
