I have two beer kits that I have had for well over a year and have not made the beer.

Is the yeast packet in these kits no good now or will they still work?

Check the dates on the yeast pack. Dry yeast lasts a lot longer than liquid in terms of shelf life. If it is a little past the expiration its probably fine. However if it expired in 2010, spend $3 and get a new pack of fresh dry yeast. I always keep a few extra packs of dry yeast in the fridge just in case (Safale or Nottingham are good choices)

Get new, and you will not worry. Most yeast you can buy will probably be better yeast anyway.
