ok. so i know many people laugh at it, but i have completed about 2 batches with the mr. beer kit. although they turned out great, im ready to move on to something a little more complex and be able to be more creative with it. i have absolutely no idea where to start. any and all advice would be welcome. look forward to brewin.

You'll need the gear first. You can do partial boils on the stove with a 3-gallon pot, using extract, but you could also step right up to partial-mash or all-grain. If you've got the space and the means, you could even get right into the full setup. You'll want a nice 7-gallon or larger kettle, a fermenting bucket or carboy, and probably a larger propane burner (you'll have a hard time getting a full boil going on the stove in your kitchen). Plus all the miscellaneous doodads like airlocks, siphons and tubing, a brewing spoon, thermometer, hydrometer, etc.

Maybe check out some of the starter kits at the brew supply websites to see what's included, and start to figure out what you need and what you don't. Before you know it, you'll be deciding between a 5-gallon or a 10-gallon round water cooler to convert to a mash tun. :)

Joy of Homebrewing is a good book to cover the evolution of the homebrewer...from all extract to partial grain to all grain. I have read many other books which are much better for more advanced brewers, but this is a good overview. I followed this same path...extract to partial grain to all grain. Partial grain is just a couple of easy steps in addition to doing extract. Find a recipe with some crystal malt in it. Get some grain bags at your LHBS and steep them along with your dried malt extract (DME). It will taste better than all-extract. Eventually, go to all grain. Tastes even better. Have fun with this journey!

Definitely take a look at the homebrew stores and look at starter kits. I started with about a $100 starter kit from Midwest Supply and one of their Extract with Grains kits and the addiction was started. I have since added a mash tun and I am doing partial mashes. Eventually I will gather the equipment needed to do all grain.
Welcome to the addiction! Good luck!
