Annual xmas beer tasting.

Cleaning up this morning I counted 75 unique beers; 140 bottles.

Merry Christmas!

That's not counting the multiple bud light platinum cases for beer pong, lone star light Uno, and other shenanigans. Rainer actually made it for every bottle throughout all four days with me *high five*
Jesus dude. Your poor liver.

Haha yall opened the persica. Was it buttery?
I checked into 149 beers Friday through Monday, and I did not check into the "punishment" beers.

Thanks for sharing the Persica but that was not a good bottle. It wasn't terribly buttery. It had a little bit of peach aroma but to me tasted like watered down fruit loops.

Not a bad evening with good people:

Here's most of the aftermath from our Xmas Eve cellar draining party. There's a handful of things not pictured (namely the 3L of 2006 Roots Epic) because people wanted to take some of the empties home as souvenirs, but this is most of the stuff that was still sitting around the next morning.

The appetizers/palate cleansers:

Cheers!

Last night. A mostly sour tasting. A good amount of the dregs went into a 55 gallon barrel that hold a Flanders Red we brewed.

super fun. one of the best tastings I've been a part of in recent history - highlight for me was Atrial Gueuzicite. Tilquin Gueuze + anything is awesome.

thanks to Touch_My_BrettSacch for hosting and obiwan_k3n00bi and shelf_turd_ferguson for contributing.
Great, quite intimate share. Like any good share made up of internet strangers, we were sure to briefly touch on mandatory topics such as politics and religion.

The share was completely organized through talkbeer and was made up of people who had not met before (save people's +1's); a victory for growing talkbeer's community!

wwby- crazy lemon bomb, bright and tart
wwbb- a shadow of its former self- birch is almost non existent
wwbi- the clear standout, blueberries are fading, but still awesome
wwbv- first time i had this, only 2 of 8 of us liked it (myself included)
cherry origins- sour cherry pie to the face!

anubis coffee porter- decent coffee, a little too much roast
hammer of the holy- smokey stout goodness

how was the vanilla

Tasting from Saturday night included a Kriek-Off

Blind tasting with 8 Lambics and 1 American Wild and 1 sewer water

LambickX scored well along with all 3 of the 3F beers.
Sounds interesting - I'm planning a kriek-off too! Line-up will probably be Cantillon regular Kriek + Lou Pepe, 3F Oude, Schaarbekse and Intense Red, De Cam and Hanssen's. I'd be interested in more detailed tasting notes...

how was the vanilla
Stupid good. Like someone opened the bottle and dropped some vanilla extract into it. Srs. It was incredibly prominent. WTF. I think I'm going to seek one more out because I couldn't believe how good it was. Rare, however, is still overrated or has fallen way off.

We tried to do all similarly aged beer. So all of the bottles were from 2012-2013 releases. I'd say try to limit it to 4-6 beers if you want to be able to guess which is which. 9 was way too many and they all started to blend together as I was tasting. The Cantillons seemed a little off compared to other times I've had them. The '13 100% Kriek was very musty, and the Lou Pepe Kriek ('11 Sticker, '13 bottling) was super woody.

Some of us TBers drank last night. No one gave a **** enough to snap relevant photos. We drank some sour beer and some stouts, some new IPA and some mead.

Oh I snapped pics, but I just post them to Instagram so the whole world can fap to them along with my topless mirror pics.

I feel like all these mixed experiences have to be due to bottle variation or cellaring conditions. I've been able to try Vanilla and Rare 3 times each recently and every time it was different. The first 2 Rares I thought were a complete shell but then I had another one last month that was redonkulously good.
