Just checked the gravity for my first batch that I started a week ago. It's a dunkle. The OG was 1.052, it's now around 1.021 and should be around 1.012-1.015 FG.

The beer had a rotten egg smell to it, with stuff caked onto the side a bit.

From what I've gathered, the stuff on the side is normal. And the smell is sometimes included in the fermentation process, which obviously still isn't finished.

I did drink some of the sample and have to admit it tasted pretty good after only a week.

Just want to know if I should be concerned about the smell at all. Will be racking to the secondary once the FG stabilizes.

It was a wheat yeast. But i've also heard the CO2 smells pretty bad.

I'm not too worried actually, but I like to ask questions so I'm better informed.

Don't get too close to the CO2 and sniff hard, you'll pass out. I've got a beer in the tank now that has a funky smell to it but tastes great in samples.
