I've got a few brews under my belt and have just started a beer I call RIOTS (Russian Imperial Oatmeal Treacle Stout), it's a partial as I needed to mash the Oatmeal with grain. In the process I tasted the Oatmeal and Pale Malt wort and it was quite tasty, has anyone tried putting Oatmeal into a low bitterness light ale? What was it like and do you recommend it?

I may try a small batch in the future but keen to hear what it's like.

My last brew was a blonde i added half pound of instant oats to the mash and i enjoy it.It added little to no flavor and a great body.
I have to stop myself from useing oats in all recipes because im a partial masher as well and it cuts in the grain i can use.I couldnt think of a style i would refrain from useing oats IMO.

I just brewed a blue moon clone and the grain bill called for 10% rolled oats. It's fermenting now ...

This is a dumb question. I'm preparing to brew an oatmeal stout. When they refer to rolled oats in the grain bill, can I simply use regular breakfast Quaker oats? Is it simply added to the mash with the crushed malts?

Yes... just made a Blonde Ale and I'm drinking it now... 8 ozs of flaked oats... lovely head and great body...

I guess "good head" and a "great body" are appropriate for a "blonde". LOL

Yes, but from what I understand you want the Quaker "Quick" oats. And yes, just mash them with the rest of the grains.

Burnside Brewing in Portland, OR makes an oatmeal pale ale. I tried it once, and I'm pretty sure it was good but it has been a while.

As he says, quick oats are ok to just throw in the mash with the rest of the stuff.

If you get regular rolled or steel cut or whatever, you'll want to do a cereal mash to extract the sugars.

I think Lefthand uses lactose in a pale ale or another light ale they had which is a great beer,i just found it unusuall to do so when i seen that. That came to mind and just reminds me of using oatmeal in lighter ales, ive just used a small amount of oats in a last few pale/mild ales that i did.I think a small amount would work well in many beers.
For some reason the two somewhat remind me of each other lactose and oats. They give a slickness maybe a bit of mouthfeel but that seems about it.I gotta conjure up one of lefthands beers now since i havent tried making any like it before.
