Based on the description of a hint of fruitiness and a earthiness, I'd take a guess that they could be Cascade. Nothing ventured, nothing gained! Give it a shot! :mug:
 
The browning on the cones shouldn't be a big deal it happens a lot with homegrown and wild hops(not sure why). If you do decide to toss them try crushing a cone to see if it has any seeds...if seeds are present I would be very interested to take them off your hands. Cheers
