Not homegrown, but wild...

I was given some wild hops by a friend that picked them outside of Portland last year. Tomorrow I am brewing a Pale Ale and thought that this might be the time to give them a shot. I have no idea what kind of hops they are. There is a hint of fruitiness, mixed with an Earthiness. The brown on them is a bit unnerving. Any suggestions on whether to use them or not? Based on the description of a hint of fruitiness and a earthiness, I'd take a guess that they could be Cascade. Nothing ventured, nothing gained! Give it a shot!

I would toss them out. Too much brown for me.

The browning on the cones shouldn't be a big deal it happens a lot with homegrown and wild hops(not sure why). If you do decide to toss them try crushing a cone to see if it has any seeds...if seeds are present I would be very interested to take them off your hands. Cheers
