You're making me jealous guys, but a least I'm very close to the source of multiple German and Belgian beers.
Lol will do... because I had already planned on going! I've had my cousin send me some of their beers, so I'm gonna stock up. Might also try and make the pilgrimage to Treehouse, but I'm not sure if I'll have time for that. I wish the one in Saratoga Springs was open.Let me know when you head to fidens, I’m about 8 minutes from their taproom. I’ll take any excuse to tell my wife I’m running out for a beer lol
You're invited too! You're making me jealous guys, but a least I'm very close to the source of multiple German and Belgian beers.
You and @LCBA should plan to check out Wayward Lanes and The Warbler while you’re in the area. Warbler is about 10 from fidens, wayward is about 30 but both are def worth it. The warbler is killer and the place that brewed a collab with me last year (Dubious Nectar) and wayward is outrageously good. Probably the best overall brewery in NY. They brew great lagers, darks, and hoppy stuff. Won best of New York a few times now in major NYS compsI'll be headed there also, weekend of Sept 7th our anniversary brewery trip.
My next question was gonna be other stops to make, you beat me to it.. I appreciate that man. We'll be sure to put them on the must do list. You and @LCBA should plan to check out Wayward Lanes and The Warbler while you’re in the area. There are so many in the area. A few others are really solid too.My next question was gonna be other stops to make, you beat me to it.. I appreciate that man. We'll be sure to put them on the must do list.
Well get in Thursday and be there through Sunday so 2 full days, half of another, then Sunday a rough drive home is likely in order haha. There are so many in the area. A few others are really solid too.
How long are you going to be here? If you have time to visit a few I can def put a list.
I’ll send you a list of places to check out for beer and some great food spots. Are you actually staying in Albany? If not, where will you be at, town wiseWell get in Thursday and be there through Sunday so 2 full days, half of another, then Sunday a rough drive home is likely in order haha.
Nice. I think that’s up by the palace theater if I recall correctly. I’ll send you a dm at some point this week will some recs. Regardless of what you do, there’s a lot to do in the area and your in a great central locationIn Albany, like a couple blocks from fidens at a Hilton

I’ll be on a similar time frame if you wouldn’t mind sharing with me as well!I’ll send you a list of places to check out for beer and some great food spots. Are you actually staying in Albany? If not, where will you be at, town wise
I'm 5 min from my local brewery too. "Hey honey, I have to run a few errands. Be back in a few..." LOLLet me know when you head to fidens, I’m about 8 minutes from their taproom. I’ll take any excuse to tell my wife I’m running out for a beer lol
If you ask what you're shooting for most likely someone will post a recipe for you. There are so many variations at this point. Is there anyway we can have a Mod move this thread out of recipes and into the forums? I know it started as a recipe but now it's almost 500 pages of discussion. The only problem I have is I am trying to search the recipes for hazyies based on some specific criteria I want and all I get is 10 pages of results for this thread. But zero of the results are recipes, they are just the discussions on here. It's making it impossible to find a hazy recipe I want.
@Dgallo mentioned The Warbler, and I will second that. It's a small operation - only 2 official employees. But the head brewer/owner has been in the business since his college days. I'm a little biased as I've become good friends with him, but the beer is (mostly) objectively very good and well made, and he actively supports the local homebrew scene. Thursday (tonight obviously) is Trivia night which I'm always at. I'm usually there at some point fridays and saturdays as well, so if you make it there, feel free to send me a message. Maybe Dgallo can get out of the house as wellWell get in Thursday and be there through Sunday so 2 full days, half of another, then Sunday a rough drive home is likely in order haha.

Sure thing brother!I’ll be on a similar time frame if you wouldn’t mind sharing with me as well!
Would you say you only use Galaxy on the coldside/dry hop?I would recommend going with Spectrum if the lots available to you are not that great. Me personally was lucky last year got super strong overripe pineapple galaxy lot from YCH, the lot after had more passionfruit and resin. I think it's a hop you really have to experiment with in terms of process, contact time, temperature, amounts etc etc.
Suarez Family Brewing! It's just outside of Hudson, not Albany but it blew me away when I was there last year. Drive 3 hours after landing in Boston and checking out Trillium and Vitamin Sea. Though, Suarez doesn't make hazy's... I still dream about that pilsner I had there.@Dgallo mentioned The Warbler, and I will second that. It's a small operation - only 2 official employees. Only been there once myself, but their beers aren't too hard to find. Yes, they do VERY well made lower abv styles that are nearly flawless. I did a tour there and they had just added new tanks recently. The head brewer said: "When most breweries add more tanks, it's so they can make more beer. We added more tanks so we could lager longer". I think that sums up their philosophy nicely.Suarez Family Brewing! Ok thanks. I gave that a try. But that technique doesn't allow you to narrow your results to just the recipes portion of the forum. Evening using "recipe" in the search gives results mostly in the forum section. I still think moving it would be beneficial, especially for new brewers coming to the site looking for recipes. You can run your search through Google.

Thanks. That was going to be my next step. I've got it figured out now. But it was made more difficult by this recipe thread screwing with the search. So just thought I would mention it. I was mostly just looking for recipes using specific leftover hops and yeast I already had in my fridge and want to get rid of. As I have hadn't built a hazy recipe before or used any of this stuff in a hazy just wanted to see if others had and what flavors they give.If you ask what you're shooting for most likely someone will post a recipe for you. I think it was your Nelson. I had a bag of 2023 Nelson from YVH do the same thing to me that I ended up throwing out. I’ve seen this from Nelson a couple times. Bright with Nelson from tree house is one of my favorite beers but I recall a batch that had this flavor a couple years back that was so bad I couldn’t drink it. To me I don’t get jalapeño but woody/spicy.I brewed with some 2023 Galaxy from YVH and it was amazing, although I went a bit heavy on the hops and had to wait about 4 weeks for the hop burn to calm down a bit.
On the other hand, I tried to brew with some 2023 Nelson Sauvin from YVH and it was awful, just disgusting. The beer to me had a woody/jalapeno spice without the spicy burn, not sure how better to describe it.
To try and rule out other issues with this particular brew, I made "hop tea" with each of the individual hops I used by putting 2g of pellets in 3/4 cup of just boiled hot water. The Citra and Citra lupomax were ok, but the Nelson was gross.
Questions:
- Was my "hop tea" a good way to test if these hops were any good? Other suggestions?
- Has anyone ever returned a bag of "bad hops" to YVH? If so, how did that go?
Saurez is great. For those not familiar with saurez, the owner and brewer Dan was Shawn hills right hand man at hill farmstead and was the one that really got their funk/country beer project Off and running. His beers are absolutely perfect. That said, the brewery is a good 40-50 from Albany and to be honest, the taproom is very pretentious and yuppy. I genuinely don’t like the vibe in there. Def worth a visit but in my opinion it’s not the type of brewery you frequent besides picking up beer. Thankfully in our area, Delaware Supply (amazing taproom/bottle shop that is annually chosen for Zwannze day) usually has between 4-8 offerings from them in cans or bottlesSuarez Family Brewing! Sounds amazing! Curious what year and brand of Strada you have. I had used YCH's 2020 but wasn't thrilled with it.Just sampled my latest Citra/Strata neipa with a 9oz DH. By far the most intense hop forward neipa I've made to date. Getting unripe strawberry, honeydew melon, vanilla juice. Slight spice. It's super early, as I kegged on 7/28, but I would skip the 2 min addition and maybe toss everything in at the WP. Then obviously the same DH. Maybe mash a touch higher too...View attachment 854821
It was 2022 Yakima Valley Hops. I got 2 lbs on a flash sale and they were great. I also had the 2020 batch and wasn't a huge fan.Sounds amazing! Curious what year and brand of Strada you have. I had used YCH's 2020 but wasn't thrilled with it.
I just might advise against using nectaron as the pair. Nectaron might throw the nz diesel that could distract from your first time using elani. I would pair it with something like citra for a first time as your probably very familiar with what it brings to the table and you’ll get more knowledge from the beerAnybody have experience using Elani hops in a NEIPA? Was planning on trying 2:1 Elani and Nectaron for both WP and DH.

I did an Elani heavy beer, probably 75% with a touch of citra, turned out very nice, passionfruit guava notes.Appreciate the advice and I might just do that. Maybe this is a bad idea but I was also considering just using Elani in WP and DH.

I haven’t made it yet. So not set on recipe yet. But starting with the base recipe from second update I think. Just subbing some leftover grains I have. Gonna try to save some expired Omega British ale V. Biggest thing I was looking for is I’m going heavy on the Cascade hops. I know it’s not as common of a hazy hop but I’ve got a plant that makes 5 times what I use in a year and always throw it away so want a house beer that uses it up. Gonna mix in some leftover Citra too. Anything else I should mix it?What recipe did you end up settling on?
I love Cascade in hazies. It pairs fantastically with Citra and Simcoe. I'd go double the Cascade to everything else though as the AA% are usually half of Citra/Simcoe.I haven’t made it yet. Looking forward to pics and further thoughts. Would be nice if they eventually offer an amount more attractive to homebrewers. But $132 for 50 ml prices me right out of the market.Kegged up a new hazy about a week ago hit 5.1% and used 1 ml of yvh pineapple paradise euphorics in the dh for a 5 gal batch. Naturally the beer came out with awesome dole pineapple notes. Will def use this product again.
Briess pilsen 67%
Briess flaked oats 20%
Malted oats 12%
1 oz Columbus in mash
Wp 3 oz nelson 4 oz riwaka from yvh.
Dh with 5 oz strata 4 oz cashmere from Crosby hops
And the 1ml of pineapple paradise euphorics from yvh after a soft crash to 50.
Fermented with imperial dry hop.
Hopefully I remember to get a Pic before I kick it
