New mash paddle

NY Yankees theme mash paddle. Next step is sanding. Should I use cutting board oil?

I wouldn't treat it.

From tipicreeper, "wet down the paddle with a rag. This will allow the grain to raise then sand it down again.
Then it shouldn't 'rough up' for some time."

What was said above. Don't add anything to the paddle you wouldn't want in your beer.

You should cook the wood. About 600 degrees over an open flame should be good.

Nice...looks like Maple...I'd leave it naked...sand as necessary.

Yes it is maple. Sound like this paddle will go naked once sanding is complete.

Another vote for naked. I have a paddle made from sugar maple with birds eye in. It's absolutely beautiful
