Got this grain mill a month or so ago but finally gave it a test. Successful test so I ordered bulk grain and now I'm cooking with gas as they say!

Yep, I brew on a Grainfather. For me, it was a perfect fit. I have no need to brew larger than 5-6g, it's compact for storage and the new connect controller makes it super painless to do pretty much any type of brewing (step, timed, etc). With that being said, all these can be cons for someone. After a good 30 batches, would I do it differently? Not likely. It's a tried and true system at this point. It has it's faults; limited to 110v, it's a chore to brew on when your OG goes beyond 1.060, the filter clogs pretty easily if you brew highly hopped beers and of course its limited to a ~19lb grain bill.

(If, I bought a new system, it would be a 3 tier eHERMS system from Spike Brewing)

I would be remiss if I didn't mention the other all in one systems, such as Braumeister, Brew Boss, Breweasy, Brau Supply Unibrau to name a few.

I'm not really sure what to make of the GF Conical. The price is right, but they could use some design work. Poor thing looks like they just slapped it together.

Turns out a guy in my club already has one. That's crazy. And another guy says he can build one.

It's probably the same dude I saw on Brewers in the Hood FB page. I saw the vid and said OH **** out loud lol. I'm thinking about entering that farmboy farmhouse comp.

If his initials are JI, yeah, same guy.

I don't have anything for that comp. They are doing a Monster Mash at Eureka Heights in October, details TBD, but I'll probably just pay to get wort from that, anytime I'm not doing all the Mash I'll take it. I need to send you my brewing itinerary to see if there's any sessions you want to jump in on.

Brewing this Sat but need to roll solo to get my double brewday process down better.

Cool! The last brewery I can recall doing a monster mash was southern star and that was years ago. What are the details for the farmhouse comp, btw? I got the email blast from farmboy and the link was broken, plus...I don't have an FB account. I was logged into my wife's account looking for info....and that's when I ran across the canner.

I'll be there tomorrow to get details for you on Farmhouse.

Monster Mash is TBD.

CIA in Katy had a wort buy fall through and we're trying to put together another one.

Anyone DIY a window AC unit to a glycol chiller? I've watched some YouTube setups and it doesn't look all that difficult.

Used this in a 10 gallon keg so I could dry hop using loose pellets. From what I've read loose hops will increase contact and extraction. I do have a Conical but 2 things happen, DO is introduced when adding and the yeast and hop slurry always tanks the yield. Now I purge the keg, open, add hops, seal and repurge a few times, then push beer under pressure over.

Had zero problems filling 5 gallon kegs. And while dry hopping I'd lay the big keg down and roll it around to resuspend the hops.

This is a cheap mod and so far it worked with 6oz pellets.

Well ******* ****. The rigid plastic I line the walls in my cold room we're bowing on one exterior wall. We used contractors tube glue in crescent shapes to secure it. The cold room is set at 40F. Apparently this was too cold and it caused the glue to lose it's adhesiveness.

So buy new plastic and a gallon of contact cement. Do a test for a week and it holds. Today burn some braincells and and get the new plastic up against the rigid insulation. I notice other plastic bowing under the AC unit, I push on it and the rigid foam is also bowing.

So I tear it all out to the studs and the AC is leaking condensation down behind the rigid insulation. Anyway, now I have to fix wall #2 and figure out how/why the AC is leaking. It's always something.

Cooler mash tun cracked in the cold weather. Looking to upgrade without breaking the bank. Typically do 5-10gal batches. Any suggestions?
