New brewer

I have my first brew in fermenter after owning the book how to brew for 3 years I know I know what was the hold up but just worked out that way I guess my question is with recipes I see posted places when it says so many ounces hops for so many minutes are pellet hops the same ratio as whole hops? Same weight same amount of time etc my first batch was an extract kit so just followed instructions but would like to know for future brews thx
