I'll be brewing my first AG as soon as my buddy finishes welding a bulkhead on my new keggle. I'm sure my efficiency will be off, so I have dome DME on hand. My question is how much does 1 lb of DME increase the gravity in a 5 gal batch? I know 1 lb in 1 gal of water is 1.040 sg or 40 points, right? So divided into 5 gal would be 8 points. i.e. 1lb of dme will raise 5 gal of wort 8 points.
or have I've been drinking too much of my extract brew?:drunk:

right
But, different extracts will yield different results. I know that Briess publishes their ifo online, they are all around 40 though.

thats about right. unless you can get a better published number then just go with that. in the end getting your OG to 1.051 when you were shooting for 1.053 isn't gonna change jack!
