Neglected SCOBY Question

Do to factors that I am not quite sure of, I have not done anything with my Kombucha for sometime. My last transfer was on June 1 and have been untouched since then. SCOBY looks very happy and health just needs a new bath.

My question is should I harvest the mother from the bottom or the top?

I always use the top one and have had great success. I keep some underneath scoby in a quart jar and put fresh tea on it and it will grow a beautiful top scoby , this is my scoby hotel, I can then use these for side projects where you can't reuse the scoby.
