Need your thoughts, suppose that...

... you had a nice little corny kegerator that was dispensing wonderfully, as well as looking sharp.

Then....

...you ran out of homebrew, so your pals run out and get a big cheap pile of big brewery swill to help. But you have no place to keep the beer cold.

Could you:
-have everyone crack open cans,
-pour them in a corny,
- and dispense using the kegerator, over the next few hours?

Thoughts?

Why not just take the keg out of the kegerator and put the beers in instead? My kegerator doubles as a beer fridge when the corny is empty.

Not the point, more of a scenario question.

Any reason why it wouldn't temporarily work?
Sure your carbing/foam would be a bit wacky, but still serviceable, right?

Oxidation won't be an issue for him in this scenario because he said they would be drinking it within a couple hours. I think the biggest problem would be transferring the beer into the keg without having major foaming issues.

It would work, I suppose, but if you were going to drink it right away, you're gonna find that the beer is pretty flat because of all the carbonation that you lose when you dump it.

A better scenario would be...go buy a bunch of GOOD beer, and just stick the bottles in the keg fridge as JoeBronco suggested.

An even better scenario would be...have a pipeline so you can just swap in the next keg of homebrew!

Yup, the beer will be flat. Local micros and brewpubs will typically fill your cornies if you ask. That's what I would do.
