NB Oktoberfest extract kit question

I was thinking about doing Northern Brewers oktoberfest kit with a Kolsh yeast because I dont have lagering abilities. I know everyone says dont bother with the kit instructions, but they say it takes three months. Is this because the kit is actually a lager? If I use the ale yeast should I still let it sit 3 mos?
 
My Oktoberfest with Kolsh yeast ...

Heat 1gal water to 160f and steep for 30min
12oz German Munich Malt
12oz Belgian Cara-Munich Malt
2oz Belgian Biscuit Malt
2oz Belgian Aromatic malt
Sparge with 1G water

at boil add
3.5# Bierkeller Light LME
3.75# Mutona Extra Light DME
4oz MaltoDextrin(60min)
1oz Tettnanger 4%AA (60min)
1oz Hallertau Hersbucker 3.7%AA (60min)

1tsp Irish Moss (15min)

Lager Yeast: WYeast 2124 or 2206
47-52deg (2 weeks Primary, 3 weeks secondary)

Ale Yeast: WLP029
62-66deg (2 weeks primary, 2 weeks secondary)

Prime with 1.25# Extra Lite DME

This is a Hakker Pshorr clone
