I started out roughly five years ago with my brother after we decided we wanted to start making our own homebrew. A lot of our friends belonged to a local brew club and one was a pro brewer, so we decided to join up.
Our first setup was a stovetop 5 gal setup, all grain. Man our efficiency sucked. We used our crappy over the top bicarbonate tap water, 5.2, etc. We still made beer though. Since my brother already had a kegging system, that part was the easiest part of the process...
As years progressed, and I continued learning and reading (a lot of help from this site in particular), setup and processes have changed, and changed for the better. Overall, I am happy where I am at, and owe a lot of my knowledge from members here at HBT.
Cheers!
