The defiance to the "requirement" of brewing 5 gal batches

every. single. time.​

... in 2012, but over time it certainly helped obliterate all those "reasons" that one couldn't brew small batches (either 'extract' or 'all grain').
 
I bought an induction hot plate to enable small batches (kettle element height requires 5 gal. minimum) but have only done a 3 gal. batch once. Force of habit? Wanting all that work to make more periodic rather than less? Closed transfers mean dry-hopped IPA is still lovely after 3 months, so why not?

Variety would be my motive for occasional smaller batches.
