Ok so I just got my mash going, strike temp was 168, and i nailed 155 on the head, I already got my hops layed out per schedule and I have my sparge water on the burner... Is it really this easy? And do I test gravity before the boil

Its this easy.

Record your pre boil gravity from now until you feel confident that you know your mash efficiency and boiloff rate (if full boils are new to your process or, if like me, you never paid attention to it for extract) Pre boil gravity readings are also good for correcting hop additions. Higher/lesser gravity will need proportionately more/less hopping.

Cheers!

Thank-you I was a little worried about this, and even though I have read enough on this forum to be confident, it still was a big step, I am about to sparge so we shall see how it turns out
