Well I tried out my new aeration stone
https://www.homebrewtalk.com/showthread.php?t=74929 today brewing my first lager (NB Bavarian Helles AG). Well I never expected this! http://picasaweb.google.com/edbourne/RabbitHairBrewery/photo#5232610520568314018

The only thing I did different besides the new stone, was a single decoction mash with a protein rest @ 122 deg. I never had activity like this before.

I have a video on YouTube here http://www.youtube.com/v/zMa6c9XsBuc (I hope this video link works, I'm new at submitting to forums)

That looks like a terrible waste of beer. :)
Is that a 5 or 6g carboy? I almost always get blow offs with my 6's, but I've only had one with the 6.5's.

Whereabouts on the Island are you?

I'm just up the road from you in Ridge.

Now I've got my glasses on, I can see what's happening in the video. I thought it was the mother of all blow offs.

Can you throttle it back? I use O2 cylinders, and you only need a gentle dribble into the wort.

No, I'm using an aquarium pump with a syringe filter. I guess I could perforate the supply line near the pump to bleed off some air before it hits the wort. I never expected this though :).

I've got an aquarium pump that seems to deliver a sensible amount of air. If you want to try it, send me a PM. I'll never use it again.
