Ive searched for the 105.7 rpm 115 vac general electric gearmotor that everyone uses and the 177rpm one also and i cant find them anywhere i was looking at surplus center and found a small motor like them but its rpm is massively higher like 743 rpm. Heres a link to it
http://www.surpluscenter.com/Brands/Bodine-Electric/743-RPM-115-VAC-INLINE-GEARMOTOR.axd

Im not really an expert on these things so can anyone tell me if i can use this motor and if i have to do anything to it to make it usable like geting the rpms down. Thanks for any help

I'm on the hunt for a good motor as well. That one from Surplus Center would require two things:
1. Either a different gearbox or a pulley system to bring it down to reasonable RPMs for grinding.
2. You'd need to build some type of enclosure to keep grain dust from getting into the motor (for both mechanical and safety reasons as grain dust is flammable)

I wouldn't bother with that motor. It is only a little less than 1/2 the speed of a 1725 rpm motor - which you can find all over the place and if you look long enough, pick up free or very cheap. Either way, you'll want to step the speed down to the 150ish range for the mill. Keep looking, you'll find something. I ended up with the drive train from a broken drill press. 3/4 hp enclosed motor, pulleys and belts in exchange for getting rid of the rest of the drill press.

i really want to have it hooked to the mill by direct drive shaft so if i wanted to use a motor with a large rpm such as this would i have to use a gear reducer if i don't want to use pulleys and a belt
