Hi all,

Reading through some of the info here, I decided to convert a 55 USG steel barrel that usually contained honey into a primary fermenter. To make life easier, I'd like to install a valve on the bottom, and a put a hole for an airlock in the top of the lid.

Has anyone done something similar? I was planning on just drilling a 1 inch hole on the bottom and was expecting to find something I could screw in there with a gasket on both sides, sort of like a valve you'd juse on a cattle waterer or something similar. But I don't seem to be able to find anything similar that's made from food grade stuff.

Is there a certain kind of terminology I should be using to find such valves, or is there perhaps a better way of doing this? I'd use the valve to make it easier to sample and take a SG reading, and also to facilitate easier cleaning, by being able to drain water out of the fermenter instead of having to tip it every time.

Any thoughts?

Thank you!

Oh excellent, thank you very much, that is what I was looking for! I assume these should work on a steel drum as well? A bit trickier to drill through I'm sure, but the spigot seems to be universal enough!
