Bob and I are on a total Neil Young kick lately. Even at my brewday last week, we played a ton of Neil Young. Anyway, Bob just googled something on Neil Young and saw he's playing at University of Minnesota next week, a solo gig, so we bought tickets. (He's playing in Milwaukee, too, but there weren't any tickets available). Anyway, so we made reservations at a cheap hotel in downtown Minneapolis for two nights, and we're driving down.

I was just there for the NHC, but I don't remember where the places we visited actually are! I drove to one, but followed DBLVSN's directions.

Can anybody tell me where a nice brewpub is for dinner, and also some cool bars? Walking distance from UM would be preferable. I drink, you know. :D

I live in Minneapolis and probably the best brew pub close to the U (and in all of Minneapolis) is the Town Hall brewery. It's located in a section of town called "seven corners". Great beer, it might be a bit of a walk but a cheap cab ride.

Good beer bar in Dinkytown, which is near the Northrup Auditorium, which is where he is playing, I'm guessing) is Stub & Herbs, lots of taps from great breweries.

I just wanted to say how jealous I am... Big fan of Neil Young. Saw him on tour some 20+ years ago. I'm sure it's going to be a great show!

Wow Neil Young takes me back - in college in the '70s, I wore the grooves out of After the Gold Rush.

Enjoy!

+1 on Town Hall. If you're gonna be on campus, that's the one for you. If you're willing to go a little further afield, the Herkimer is down Lyndale a ways from downtown and they're pretty sweet too.

As an aside, Town Hall is opening a new location within walking of my house! I'm gonna lose a lot of time there once that happens...

I like Neil's music. Wasn't he in a group called Crosby, stills, Nash, and some other guy I can't remember...? ;)

Have a good time. I think the best concerts are the small intimate ones. I saw Joe Satriani twice in the Orbit Room in GR and he rocked. Also saw Jewel in Toronto in a large hall and she killed. She is actually better live IMO.
