I have just acquired a 15 gallon conical from a guy in our homebrew club. I have my first 10 gallons in it now fermenting. Here is my question:

Should the lid seal completely air tight? I have a blow off tube in the hole in the lid. I have yet to see any bubbles after a full week of good activity. I can smell a faint bit of odor coming from around the lid. Minibrew claims a seal is not needed but they caved to the community and are now selling gaskets.

Should I worry about the lid not sealing 100%?

Can someone who has one of these give me their experienced opinion on this?

Thanks

i don't have a minibrew conical, but as with buckets, sometimes they don't seal, so i would assume sometimes these conicals don't seal. however, there should be enough positive pressure inside to keep any baddies out.
