In Jim's Beer Kit there is a very good thread about grists used in making commercial dark (and some light) milds. The range is absurd, with some ranging from 25% crystal malt to others being 100% pale malt, and even others that mainly use black malt and roast barley to darken up.
Not copying the whole thread, but mainly pointing out that it exists. A couple of highlights:
Arkell's Mash Tun Mild
Pale Malt: 66%
Crystal Malt: 25%
Chocolate Malt: 5%
Cane Sugar: 4%
J. W. Lees GB Mild
Pale Malt: 90%
#3 Invert Syrup: 10%
Manns Chestnut Mild
Pale Malt: 94.2%
Roasted Barley: 4.6%
Torrified Wheat: 1.2%
