Has anybody tried using mason jars with two piece lids for bottling? I'm guessing they must be airtight, but what about under pressure? Also, they would be easily cleaned in the dishwasher because of the wide mouths. Thanks for any info.

Short answer is no, they don't work. They are designed to hold a vacuum, not positive pressure.

Long answer isn't much different. ;)

Not for beer, but they are great for country wines and other still fermentations.

Or for saving wort, but that has to be processed first.
