I see lots of writeups on mash tuns. All great ideas. However, nobody yet has suggested this. Instead of a false bottom or a filter from a plumbing piece, use a BIAB bag as a filter. I tried it last week and it worked perfectly. No stuck sparges and I could sparge quickly.

might just try that...it makes sense for sure...I'm guessing a paint strainer bag would work since I don't have a real deal brewing bag...?

The biab bag needs something to give it structure. Otherwise in nose mash tuns it will not allow the mash to drain properly. I use a bag over my copper manifold on my HERMS because I'm using a tan pump and I don't want to clog it with grain chunks.

This drained extremely well. I had to pull the bag away from the drain but that was no big deal. Yes I have a BIAB bag. I should have taken pics.
