Made my first mash tun this week. I used all stainless fittings and a false bottom. I had a slight leak so i used "red rubber" or sheet rubber from work to make a gasket. I work for a plumbing house. I know the gasket will stand up to the heat and acids in the wort. Any negative effects of using this material?

As long as it is food grade and can withstand heat, it should be fine.

I had a leak from all three ports on my 15 gal electric kettle and had these made. They are food grade and handle like 300-350 degrees. They may not last forever but sure made my first leakless boil a joy. they fit onto the 1.5 tri clamp mounts.
