Need some HBT advice. Coleman Xtreme 70 qt cooler converted to a mash tun using this site (http://smokedprojects.blogspot.com/2013/02/converted-cooler-mash-tun.html).

My question is the spacing from the side of the cooler walls to avoid channeling. According to John Palmer's How to Brew (http://howtobrew.com/book/appendices/appendix-d/tun-geometry-and-flow-potential) the spacing between the pipes should be twice the distance of the first pipes from the cooler wall. My spacing between pipes is 2.25 inches but from the cooler wall it's only 1 inch. Part of that space at the bottom the cooler wall curves down towards the bottom.

Is this going to cause a channeling problem or am I worrying too much over an eighth of an inch on each side?

One vote for worrying too much.

If you are batch sparging, it doesn't matter at all. If you are fly sparging, you are pretty close.

I agree. I also have 70qt Coleman Cooler (blue!) and I use a long stainless steel sheath tube as my filter and I think the differences you are worrying are very tiny
