Anyone try this? I'm reading up on this and most say its a waste of hops but maybe it would work better with a larger water volume of BIAB?

I don't think hops in a beer are ever a waste. Anyhow its just First Wort Hop. So after the grains are removed and on your way up to boil you can throw the first hop in. There is much more info on this site then I know. It is supposed to get more aroma and flavor to the beer. I have done this FWH with both my bittering addition or a flavor hop but to me its just a hop that is being boiled the whole time. I have not noticed any difference and I am not sure science can back it up either. The reactions that are taking place are beyond me but most say that above 180 hop oils isomerize leaving only the bittering and not so much of flavor and aroma. With that in mind a 60min boil would end up with a 60+min bittering hop addition rather than this new idea of extra flavor and aroma from a FWH. All that said, I have not stopped playing with it and typically add my first hop or 60 min addition as a FWH. Just depends on the style.

But quick note; if you do want more flavor and aroma I have been doing Hop Stands and so far am happy with the outcome.
