Manifold questions

I read a bit of the converted cooler info in the brew wiki above. Great info in there but I had a quick manifold question.

They show a copper version for the rectangular and a SS braided version for the round bottom.

What about a PVC version of the rectangular or square? Would it be sanitary enough and be considered food grade or is there a specific type of PVC that should be used?

really? that is more "food safe" than the copper? Or what if u felt like spending the money and wanted to do SS?

NO NO...Copper or SS is totally preferable...just typically not cost effective.

But if you build a plastic one, use CPVC

CPVC is rated for hotter water. Up to like 180 or something. PVC is rated only up to about 130 degrees or something like that. Make sure you get CPVC. Or copper if you're all kinds of rich.

+1 to CPVC. Regular PVC will leach chemicals into the hot liquor, not too mention it will deform.

I have read in a few different places that copper has anti-bacterial properties. IF you can't afford copper or SS....I would say CPVC also.

Doesn't make a bit of difference at that stage. You'll be boiling after you have it in the mash tun.

this is the one i made recently.... it's cpvc. regular pvc isn't suited for the high temps....

Sorry, I just breifly skimmed the post. I thought he was talking about a manifold in a kegging system. Guess I shouldn't be so lazy next time.
