Hi all,
I'm gathering all the ingredients for Orfy's hobgoblin recipe but can't seem to find maltodextrin, is there a substitute I could use?
Would lactose work or not ?
Cheers for any help

Are there any "Body Buliding" gyms or health food stores in your area?

They sell a product called Carbo Gain (might be under other brand names in ypur area)which is maltodextrin. It is a non fermentable corn product.

Try googling it, might be an online supply in your area.

No, but now I know what I'm looking for. There are 1 or 2 'health' shops that sell stuff like whey protein etc so I'll bet my next brew that they'll have it.
Thanks for pointing me in the right direction :)

Yep, CarboGain in the orange tub is 100% maltodextrin. They should have dextrose too if you need that. Before getting into homebrewing, I had tubs of dextrose and maltodextrin for making post workout shakes.

I have found that my LHBS is actually a decent amount cheaper on dextrose...not sure on malto. I would check your LHBS first.

No, lactose will not be the same as maltodextrin. Lactose is sweet. Maltodextrin adds body without flavor.
