lost airlock cap

I lost the cap to my air lock and I tapped a milk cap loosely to the lid with holes cut into it. I had to use it because I didnt ralize I lost the cap until the wort had chilled, I will replace it next time but is this a good solution for the present?
 
Did you punch any holes in the milk bottle top? You need airflow...
(edit: just re-read your post and see you did cut holes, good thing, and I need to read better...)
I used a cutout piece of pantyhose for a cap cover on my Apfelwein airlock because I had fruit flies getting in the airlock through those tiny holes in the cap. I could easily have just tossed the cap and just used the pantyhose.
