Looks like you found a variety that really likes your growing conditions. Wait till she's mature, you'll need to build a serious oast! Keep at it.

Yay for BC! Here is a pic of my first year cascade grown in a 100L container on a south facing vancouver balcony. I ran lines up to the upstairs balcony and lowered them into coils over my railing as they reached the top. despite the brutal weather this year, this thing has 500+ burrs on it and grew 5 vines almost 20ft long. Did you get your rhizomes from Crannog? Those things must be magic.

Yes I got them from Crannog as well. They must rub steroids on them before they send them or something!

Should side shoots be trained? I tried at first but they were very fragile and I broke the first 2 so I just let it go wild as I didn't think I'd get anything near that many first year...but now its just gone crazy. I've trained a few of the longer, thicker side shoots as they were starting to spread too far but the majority are just growing wild.

Just let the sidearms hang. The only time you should try to train them is if you have absolutely nothing better to do. Some of the varieties that produce long ones tend to get tangled together making it hard to harvest but just by allowing them to 'do their thing' provides for easier picking at harvest. Have at it!
