Local Swap-o-Rama #2, Bomber style!!!

So, since the first swap I have gotten a bit more organized. I definitely learned a thing or two from the first. I can't promise to do this EVERY time, but I'll try to keep it as up to date as possible for every swap.

Anyway...4 packages have shipped. Expected delivery dates are as follows:

Next round gets a new thread. And it will not start till everyone here gets their package. Even then, ill give a day or so's notice before starting the new one. So you'll have to wade through the beer porn in this thread until I give a heads up. I only gave a days notice last time.

Yes, first come first serve. As this gains popularity I will probably allow more exceptions. But for this one and next, there are only 3.

I agree. Btw, I never said anything about teasing your potential recipient. Feel free to post pics of a beer or two you're sending...unless you think you have me, don't tease me, I prefer the suprise lol. I do know who is sending me beer after all.

Quick question. If the guidelines for the next swap were....one style only, not necessarily local, just something your recip couldnt get. Any size bottle, can, growler. Just a volume minimum.

How does something like that sound? For example, stouts and porters only...just tryingto gauge interest levels.

Me like. You could always just sit that round out if you didn't like that style.

Wow.... I never realized how low a fifty dollar limit is...... hit that before I even made it to the best bottle shop. I did find this though (along with a lot of ipa's that are only local distribution)

Well, local and not breaking the bank has been my goal so far. I will probably have a higher stakes round in the future some time.

It probably doesn't hurt that there's four places to buy bombers within forty minutes of my house..... I hit the limit after the closest two

I hit the limit and realized that the bombers I bought were not local. Smh. Shopping for myself.
I had to go to go back for round two and grab some local brews / Cali brews for the trade.

Well only because your theMan I will tell you my idea. I was going to wait to have 100 posts and three months then set requirements to that...but I like these trades and don't want to wait. I recommend on the next swap a best of styles no limits. Everyone chooses 6 styles and sends the best of their selected styles (no preferences like now) to the recipient. this way even if you don't like the style you can at least see what is considered great in that style. Also I feel every person LOVES at least two styles and LIKES at least another four styles. This way it doesn't have to be local (or even American). It's just the sender saying this is the best of the best that I can get without extreme measures (like one DAY releases). If you want any ideas setting it up I have it already mostly set up but am waiting for the right time to post a new trade thread.

As a recipient I would rather receive the best of what you have available regardless of bottle size. Plus 4 pks usually indicate a special or limited release (or high abv) which is respectable. So I'd say it'd be ok.

I am going to let others chime in, but if members are allowed to just send whatever they like when there are set guidelines then why even have the guidelines? I would hate for someone to join a stout and porter only swap and receive a couple ipas.

Ive looked at the distribution of beers for you vs your receiver on seekabrew.com. I feel it should be doable. If you need to branch out a bit further from what you consider local so that you can send bombers, I would be in favor of that vs sending 12 oz. Bottles.

Also, just because you don't like a beer doesn't mean someone else won't. I've had guys send me beer and fully disclose that they weren't a fan, but that others liked it. And if you see one you haven't had, look up the reviews. If it gets decent scores then I would have no problem sending it. I've sent plenty of beer I have never had, but always make sure its well received by others. Heck, I have had people request beer I dislike very much. One other point...there is always the chance that someone else doesn't like a beer you really loved.

If enough members here say they are cool with allowing smaller bottles, then ill be ok with it. Not my preference, but I have always tried to make things like this a group choice.

i understand if this swap was one style, then they could not deviate from that. But i also think average bombers vs great 12ozers isnt going to matter to the recipient. I would feel better receiving better beer even tho it doesnt exactly fit the bomber guideline. I can see where the man is trying to keep everything as uniform as possible, but if the worst thing that happens in a 20 person swap is someone has to resort to a 50/50 bomber/longneck to insure they send the best local beer, then id say it was a hell of a success!

I know i am not involved in this trade but that is my 2 cents. also, we should all give the man a huge thank you for putting these swaps together and making them run so smoothly! cheers to The Man!

I think part of the problem lies within me asking everyone for preferences. In my mind, providing preferences was just to give your sender an idea of where to start. It wasn't intended to be an end all be all. It was just that, a preference. Unless the person lists specific styles they dislike, I see everything fair game, but I would first focus on the listed style. It is my fault that I didn't clearly explain what I felt the preferences were for.

Some members preference list was extensive and detailed. Others simply said, "I like xxx style" for example. Now, whether the person meant they only like that one listed style and nothing else, I don't know. And neither does the member buying for you.

I may do away with putting preferences. This would then leave it open, as normpeterson suggested earlier, to let the sender just ship whatever they think is the best stuff around.

Guys, with all due respect to all, the title of the thread makes it clear you are swapping local bombers. If you committed to participating in round 2, then you should be sending out bombers.

Yes it may be more challenging to find your locals that fit within the parameters set. Sorry if it's not easy. But for me at least, easy is not fun; challenge is fun.

The fun for me in both rounds has been in the challenge of finding local beers that fall within the parameters of the swap (ie packaging format in rounds 1 and 2), that I would like to showcase and that I think my recipient will enjoy. Thanks go to TheMan for challenging me to learn more about what's going on locally to me. Found some cool stuff.

Twenty people participated in this round and IMO those twenty people should be seeking out solid locals in bombers to send out. Do your research. Seek them out; I'm sure they're out there.

Maybe next round will be a style. That would be cool too. If it's IPA or stout or sour, I'll send out a bunch of local examples of that style, or I won't participate. Maybe the parameters will be "The Very Best," or "Most Famous," of your locals regardless of style or package format. And that would be great! But not this round.

This round is bombers; and I hope that's what we are all sending out.

solid point here, i take back my statement earlier and believe you should try as hard as possible to find some bombers! they gotta be out there somewhere, start calling stores that are a little farther from you to see what they stock before you make the trip to them

IMO bomber swap thread is just that. We try to get the styles our guy wants but for example there really aren't any locals that do sours so they won't be in there. Best local bombers you can find that he/she doesn't have access to.

Also ill add that I received a style or two in the first round I didn't ask for but they were excellent.
