Newby home brewer just about to do my second brew. Bought some liquid yeast and I read on their website that you should avoid ordering on a Friday as the yeast would be at the delivery companies depot over the weekend and not stored cool. I ordered on a Thursday and it still got stuck in delivery over a bank holiday weekend. As soon as I got it I placed it in the fridge. Would it still by OK to use even though its spent four days stored at an unknown temperature?

Most brewers suggest making a starter for any liquid yeast. Doing a starter will prove to you that the yeast is viable or will prove that the yeast is dead. I suspect the yeast will be fine. You can do the starter a couple days ahead of your brew day and refrigerate it when it is complete until you want to brew. That will give you some time to procure a different yeast if this one doesn't work.

I order yeast from half way across the US.
I've had it arrive warm, quite warm feeling, during summer.
I've had it arrive feeling the consistency of a 711 slushy in winter.
Starters have always started, beer has always resulted.
Yeast be hearty, maties.

But, yeah, make a starter.

Where do you live?

I live in Georgia and I've had 3 liquid yeast packs arrive DOA. So I no longer order liquid yeast in the summer and either use dry yeast or make the hour drive to the LHBS to pick it up in a cooler.

Now if you live somewhere with a more temperate climate, I would be much less worried. It was 97 with 60% humidity here yesterday so that's no bueno for liquid yeast in a bag
